    Cutting / Sharing Board Information

Our hardwood cutting and sharing boards are mainly constructed from Oak and Walnut (specific material can be found on the information received with your product). All boards are mineral oil soaked to help provide a barrier against staining, moisture and food odour absorption, and to keep your product looking great – though you should try to avoid contact with things like red cabbage, red wine etc. as these will most likely discolour your product!

Any sharing boards that contain epoxy resin should not be used as a cutting surface, and the resin should not come into direct contact with food. We use GlassCast resin for most of our projects, and although the manufacturer states that their resins ‘are considered to have no toxic content’ we recommend that the resin surface does not come into direct contact with any food served on them – this can be achieved by using a napkin as a barrier, for example. We are currently looking into alternate MoH approved food safe resins for use with our sharing boards, any boards containing such resins will be clearly marked as safe to be used in direct contact with food.

Both our cutting and sharing boards are finished with scented cutting board wax to provide further protection and durability – and they smell great too!

    Maintaining your cutting/sharing hardwood board

To preserve the life or your cutting board, and to keep it looking great, it’s important to clean and maintain it regularly:

    After use:

    • Always wash your cutting board by hand
    • Use regular washing-up liquid and a non-abrasive cloth
    • Always wash both sides of your board (this helps to prevent warping)
    • Wipe your board dry, then allow to fully air dry standing or leaning on its edge (don’t lie flat to dry)

    Don’t:

    • Fully submerge your board in water (this could lead to warping)
    • Put your board in the dish washer
    • Use any other chemicals (such as bleach) to clean your board

We’d recommended oiling your board if the surface starts to dull, this will restore the protective properties of the wood, and keep it looking good. You’ll get a little pot of additional board wax with your product, but if you need any additional supplies of oil or wax, you can take a look at the links below. You don’t have to use these exact products (they’re just the ones we prefer), but it’s important to make sure that any oils or wax you choose to use are food grade and safe to use in direct contact with food.

    Maintaining your epoxy resin board

To preserve the life or your epoxy resin board, and to keep it looking great, it’s important to clean and maintain it regularly:

    After use:

    • Always wash your cutting board by hand
    • Use regular washing-up liquid and a non-abrasive cloth (abrasive material could scratch or dull the epoxy resin)

Again, as epoxy resin is not approved as food safe – the resin should not be used as a cutting surface, and the resin should not come into direct contact with food.

We’d recommended oiling your board if the surface starts to dull, this will restore the protective properties of the wood and the sheen to epoxy resin, and keep it looking good. You’ll get a little pot of additional board wax with your product, but if you need any additional supplies of oil or wax, you can take a look at the links below. You don’t have to use these exact products (they’re just the ones we use), but it’s important to make sure that any oils or wax you choose to use are food grade and safe to use in direct contact with food.
